University alumni invited to variety of cultural events, special tours
8:57 a.m., April 3, 2015--Several behind-the-scenes cultural tours, including a preview of a new exhibition at the New York Botanical Garden, are being offered to University of Delaware alumni in coming weeks.
Lehigh Valley alumni will enjoy a tour of the Mercer Museum in Doylestown, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, April 11, led by UD alumna Laura Biersmith. The Mercer is a history museum dedicated to everyday life in America during the 18th and 19th centuries.

The following Saturday, April 18, alumni in Pittsburgh will enjoy a day at the Carnegie Science Center.
Alumni in the Pacific Northwest are invited to a tour of the University of Washington Special Collections on Saturday, April 25, in Seattle. The tour will be led by UD alumna Nicolette Bromberg.
Alumni, friends, faculty and staff are invited to a special event Wednesday, May 13, at the New York Botanical Garden, where alumna Karen Daubmann will provide an advance look at the new exhibition “Frida Kahlo: Art, Garden, Life” at the Haupt Conservatory. The tour will be followed by a private reception at the historic 1840 Goldman Stone Mill featuring remarks by Mark Rieger, dean of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and John Frett, director of the University of Delaware Botanic Gardens.

Saturday, April 11, 3 p.m.: Mercer Museum tour, reception. Alumni in the Lehigh Valley are invited to a guided tour of the Mercer Museum in Doylestown, to be followed by a reception at the Station Tap House. The tour will be led by UD alumna Laura Biersmith, a 1982 graduate.
Saturday, April 18, 11 a.m.: Carnegie Science Center. Pittsburgh alumni will host a day at the Carnegie Science Center, which will include a special lunch.
Saturday, April 18, 7 p.m.: Baltimore Urban Pirate Cruise. Blue Hens are invited to the fourth annual Urban Pirate Cruise around the waters of Baltimore.
Tuesday, April 21, 5 p.m.: Blue Hen Health Care Professionals. UD alumni in the health care fields are invited to a networking event in Philadelphia.
Wednesday, April 22, 6:30 p.m.: Engineers Without Borders benefit dinner. Alumni are invited to attend a benefit dinner sponsored by the University’s chapter of Engineers Without Borders at the Newark Country Club on West Main Street.
Saturday, April 25, 1:30 p.m.: University of Washington Special Collections. UD alumna Nicolette Bromberg, a 1972 graduate, will lead a behind-the-scenes tour of the University of Washington Special Collections on the campus in Seattle.
Saturday, April 25, 6 p.m.: Meadowlands Race Day. Northern New Jersey alumni will host Meadowlands Race Day, featuring horse races, a catered reception and optional bus transportation.
Saturday, May 9, 10 a.m.: Baltimore Dare to Care service project. Blue Hens in the Baltimore area are invited to donate time to help those in need with the Moveable Feast food bank.
Tuesday, May 12, 5:30 p.m.: Blue Hen Attorney Networking. UD alumni who are lawyers or law students are invited to attend a networking night at Tir Na Nog in Philadelphia.
Wednesday, May 13, 3:30 p.m.: New York Botanical Garden. Alumni, friends, faculty and staff are invited to attend a private tour of the much anticipated exhibition “Frida Kahlo: Art, Garden, Life” at the New York Botanical Garden’s Haupt Conversatory prior to the public opening. The tour will be led by UD alumna Karen Daubmann, who received a master’s degree in 2002 and is associate vice president of exhibitions and public engagement at the New York Botanical Garden. Guests will view the stunning flower show reimagining Kahlo’s famed garden and studio at the Casa Azul, her lifelong home in Mexico City. After the tour participants will take an open air tram to a private reception in the garden’s historic 1840 Goldman Stone Mill, where they will enjoy refreshments and light food and hear brief remarks by Dean Mark Rieger of the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources, and John Frett, director of the University of Delaware Botanical Gardens.
Friday, May 29, 5:30 p.m.: Richmond craft beer tasting. Alumni in Richmond, Virginia, will enjoy a tasting at Ardent Craft Ales on West Leigh Street in the city. This event is for alumni and guests 21 and older.
Friday, June 5, through Sunday, June 7: Alumni Weekend 2015. Blue Hens will return to campus for a variety of activities during Alumni Weekend 2015. Events will kick off Friday, with the evening Dela-bration on The Green a highlight. Saturday will feature a “Farewell to West Campus” party, a Kid Zone, the Alumni Wall of Fame ceremony, the “State of the University” presentation, tours and reunions for the classes of 2010, 2005, 2000, 1995, 1990 and 1965. Alumni Weekend will draw to an exciting close on Sunday with the Blue Hen 5K Run and the Kids Fun Run.
Friday, June 5, 6 p.m.: San Diego Dela-bration 2015. Blue Hens in the San Diego area will join the Alumni Weekend Dela-bration from afar, gathering at Henessey’s Tavern in La Jolla.
Friday, June 5, 6 p.m.: San Francisco Dela-bration 2015. Blue Hens in northern California will join the Alumni Weekend Dela-bration from afar, gathering at the Thirsty Bear Brewing Co. on Howard Street in San Francisco.
Friday, June 5, 6 p.m.: Chicago Dela-bration 2015. Blue Hens in Chicago will join the Alumni Weekend Dela-bration from afar, gathering at the Blackfinn Ameripub on West Kinzie.
