Newark to conduct smoke testing on sewer system near campus
2:28 p.m., Sept. 23, 2013--The city of Newark, through its consultant JMT Inc. and Savin Engineers, will conduct smoke testing of the gravity sewer system along Kells Avenue and Academy Street adjacent to the University of Delaware campus on Tuesday, Sept. 24, and Wednesday, Sept. 25.
Work will begin about 8 a.m. and end by 6 p.m. each day.

The testing involves blowing a non-toxic smoke into the sewer lines. The smoke will reveal places where storm and other surface waters are entering the sanitary system.
During this testing, gray smoke might exit through vents pipes on roofs of buildings and through sewer breaks.
