Sept. 18: 'Race Is an Archive'
Tanji Gilliam to present Black American studies talk
7:49 p.m., Sept. 16, 2013--Tanji Gilliam, artistic director of the multimedia design firm Oil House Productions, will discuss "Race Is an Archive" as part of the "Black Studies: Every Day, Every Night" lecture series.
Her talk is scheduled from 12:30-1:45 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 18, in 001 Mitchell Hall.

The program will provide an exploration of independent black film and photography production and examine how race is formed and represented in new forms of social media.
Gilliam has received numerous awards from the Social Science Research Council, as well as the Leeway Foundation's Art and Change Grant for her work on domestic violence.
A graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, she earned an M.F.A. in film, video and new media from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and her doctorate in the history of culture from the University of Chicago.
