Sharpley honored as UD's HR Liaison of the Quarter

3:09 p.m., Nov. 14, 2013--Deborah Sharpley, administrative assistant in the University of Delaware’s Department of Economics, has been named the HR Liaison of the Quarter for the third quarter of 2013.

The award identifies and recognizes an outstanding performer within the HR liaison community for the preceding quarter.

James L. Butkiewicz, department chair and professor of economics, noted that Sharpley handles all of the graduate appointments in the department, a complex task due to the different types and amounts of graduate funding.

“In all of these tasks, Deborah handles all her work promptly, accurately and efficiently, and is a able to address issues before they become problems,” Butkiewicz said. “Deborah is most deserving of this award. I am very pleased to nominate her for the recognition she deserves.”

Tammy Simpson-Turner, administrative assistant in the department, also lauded Sharpley for assisting graduate students with a wide variety of issues. 

“Deborah is always there to assist our graduate students and faculty when needed and she does so with a smile every time,” Simpson-Turner said. “I am fortunate to have Deborah as a coworker.” 

Sharpley said that she enjoys working with others and helping graduate students resolve issues within the department. 

“Tracking statistics on every aspect of the graduate program, from prospect to postgraduate, gives us an amazing insight into the quality of education we provide,” Sharpley said. “Making sure that all of our hard-working graduate students are paid correctly and on time also is a significant and extremely important part of my position.” 

Sharpley said she is honored and pleased both pleased and honored to be recognized for the work that she loves to do. 

“Working with such intelligent and talented faculty in the Department of Economics is very personally rewarding,” Sharpley said. “Being involved with the growth and education of graduate students, both national and international, gives me great hope in our economic future.”
