Ten UD seniors presented highest grade point index awards during Commencement


4:30 p.m., May 31, 2014--Ten graduating University of Delaware seniors achieved the highest grade point index earned in full-time study toward a University degree and were recognized during Commencement ceremonies held Saturday, May 31, in Delaware Stadium.

To be eligible, a graduating senior must have earned at least 75 percent of the total credits required for the degree at the University of Delaware and must have averaged a minimum of 15 credits per semester.

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

Recognized at Commencement by Provost Domenico Grasso were:

Jessica Hadley Bonnett, of State College, Pennsylvania, who received a bachelor of science degree in athletic training. She will attend the Penn State College of Medicine as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Army and plans to pursue a career as an orthopedic surgeon.

Nora McDonough Crawford, of Wilmington, Delaware, who received bachelor of arts degrees in political science and in economics. She has been accepted to study at the University of Pennsylvania Law School.

Sean Carl Herron, of Hockessin, Delaware, who received bachelor of science degrees in chemistry and economics. He has been accepted to study at Harvard Law School.

Kelsey Lynn Johnson, of Bear, Delaware, who received a bachelor of science degree in pre-veterinary medicine and animal biosciences with minors in business administration and biological sciences. She will attend the University of Georgia College of Veterinary Medicine, studying companion animal medicine.

Dylan Lee Kahler, of Middletown, Delaware, who received a bachelor of arts degree in biological sciences. He will work as a UD Edge mentor this summer and plans to join the AmeriCorps program in Philadelphia in the fall.

Gretchen Charity Lort, of Townsend, Delaware, who received a bachelor’s degree in applied music and voice. She will teach music at Tall Oaks Classical School in New Castle, Delaware.

Lewis Eric Okun, of Longmeadow, Massachusetts, who received a bachelor of science degree in accounting. He will work for PricewaterhouseCoopers in Boston.

Victoria Stanhope, of Waynesville, Ohio, who received an honors bachelor of science degree in exercise science. She will be a professional freelance photographer.

Anna M. Wagner, of Pennington, New Jersey, who received a bachelor’s degree in environmental engineering. She plans to work in water resources engineering at Century Engineering before pursuing a master’s degree in environmental engineering.

Kimberly Zwissler, of Saint Leonard, Maryland, who received an honors bachelor of science degree in exercise science. She will attend occupational therapy school at Ohio State University.
