Downtown Newark to host annual Restaurant Week celebration

2 p.m., Jan. 14, 2014--Downtown Newark will hold its annual Restaurant Week, a culinary celebration highlighting the city’s diverse restaurants and their offerings, from Monday, Jan. 20, through Sunday, Jan. 26.

Throughout the week, participating downtown Newark restaurants will offer special menus highlighting the best they have to offer at the right prices.

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

Three tiers of prix fixe meals are offered, with some restaurants offering more than one tier during the week. Lunches feature two-course meals for $10, friends and family fun meals feature food for four for $22, and dinners feature two-course meals for $22 and three-course meals for $28.

Each restaurant develops specific menus for the week according to their clientele and tiers.

Participating restaurants include: 16 Mile Taphouse, Ali Baba Middle Eastern Restaurant, Buffalo Wild Wings, Caffe Gelato, California Tortilla, Catherine Rooney’s Irish Pub and Restaurant, Cosi, Deer Park Tavern, Grotto Pizza, Home Grown Café, Iron Hill Brewery, Kildare’s Irish Pub, Klondike Kate’s, Santa Fe Mexican Grill, Tarantella di Napoli, Taverna Rustic Italian and Saigon Restaurant.
