Student-friendly environment
Morris Library Information Room renovations announced
2:01 p.m., April 29, 2014--The University of Delaware Library has announced that the Information Room in the Morris Library will undergo an exciting and colorful renovation to make the area become more student-friendly and a nicely appointed environment.
“The refurbished look for the Morris Library Information Room will include new furnishings, new colors, new carpet, new computers including some stations with dual monitors for collaborative work, and more. The project is planned to be completed by the start of the fall 2014 semester,” stated Susan Brynteson, vice provost and May Morris University Librarian.

The Unidel Foundation provided partial funding support for the renovation.
When the library held a campus-wide LibQUAL+ survey in February and March 2013, the entrance and Information Room received many constructive comments suggesting the need for updating the areas and making it more modern and collaborative.
Portions of the project have been underway for some time:
- Furniture options were on view in the Information Room and many library users including scores of students provided input on favorite chairs and banquettes. Those opinions were used in the decision-making for the furnishings, which have been ordered.
- A new scanner has already been installed for library user convenience.
- The light fixtures in the entrance to the Morris Library have been recently equipped with new and improved ten-year light bulbs that provide more light in the area.
- Shelving for little-used national bibliographies was removed in order to make room for computers on counters and print stations.
The project has been coordinated by Sandra K. Millard, associate university librarian for Services, Outreach and Assessment, who said that students are expected to love the new arrangements and make heavy use of them.
Large posters with diagrams of the changes similar to this schematic drawing have been mounted on easels in the Information Room, and can be seen here in PDF format.
