Center for Study of Diversity announces graduate research grant program

4:07 p.m., Oct. 18, 2012--The University of Delaware Center for the Study of Diversity has announced a graduate research grant program.

A total of $7,500 in small grants ranging from $250 to $1,500 will be awarded to UD graduate student projects that facilitate wider understanding of the social and academic impact of diversity.

"We hope this small grants program will stimulate and support graduate research and scholarship that addresses a wide range of diversity issues on campus and in the community," said James Jones, director of the Center for the Study of Diversity.

Grants will support efforts in the following areas:

• Public scholarship -- Scholarly based projects that extend beyond the walls of the University (e.g. action research with K-12 teachers; development and implementation of strategies to foster physical activity in at-risk adolescent females);
• Research/data analysis – Original research, secondary data analysis and laboratory, survey and archival research; and
• Policy analysis/research -- Analysis of policy implications of diversity related documents/ published papers, public policies and institutional programs.

To apply, graduate students should submit a coversheet, a proposal of no more than 1,500 words (including a 500-word abstract) and budget to Bess Davis at esdavis@udel.edu. A curriculum vitae should be submitted as a separate file. 

The deadline for applications is 5 p.m., Monday, Dec. 10.

Applicants will be notified concerning the success of proposals on Jan. 15, 2013,and the grant funding will begin Feb. 15. Funds must be used within two years and recipients will be expected to submit a progress report and provide an update at a center faculty meeting in fall 2013.
