IT recommends technology options for course continuity after Hurricane Sandy

3:42 p.m., Oct. 26, 2012--Hurricane Sandy might have a serious impact on many parts of the region. Some University of Delaware students might have difficulty making it to campus; some faculty might need to present material from a “lost” class session.

UD Information Technologies (IT) reminds faculty that UD offers online resources to help instructors communicate with their students, archive resources for students and provide additional instructional material to students.

Faculty can consult IT’s technology options for course continuity webpage for information about Sakai@UD, PO Box, UD Dropbox, Google Apps, UD Capture and other tools that may facilitate communication.

According to Paul Hyde, IT Academic Technology Services, “Faculty can use UD Capture not just for classroom recording, but also to host faculty-produced course recordings, perhaps recording material to replace a class meeting cancelled due to the weather.” He added that faculty can get more information about that service by visiting the UD Capture website or sending email to ats-info@udel.edu.

Faculty should evaluate all these tools to see which will best match their teaching needs during a regular semester and which may help maintain continuity during unusual circumstances.
