UD and readabout.me

Students encouraged to set up their readabout.me profiles

1:57 p.m., Nov. 7, 2012--Last fall, the University of Delaware partnered with readMedia to share the news of UD’s impressive students with the Hometown Newsmaker service.

Through UD’s Office of Communications and Marketing, select UDaily stories as well as graduation and Dean’s List announcements are sent via Hometown Newsmaker to local newspapers to highlight the accomplishments of students in their hometowns. The service gives local papers the opportunity to publish the article — enabling neighbors, friends and family to read about he achievements of UD students from their hometowns.

Campus Stories

From graduates, faculty

As it neared time for the processional to open the University of Delaware Commencement ceremonies, graduating students and faculty members shared their feelings about what the event means to them.

Doctoral hooding

It was a day of triumph, cheers and collective relief as more than 160 students from 21 nations participated in the University of Delaware's Doctoral Hooding Convocation held Friday morning on The Green.

An online copy of the article is also emailed to the student and his or her parents when an address is on file, which they are able to send to others or even "Like" and share on Facebook or Twitter

The stories are also posted to the student’s readabout.me profile, another social media aspect of Hometown Newsmaker. Each student is encouraged to log into readabout.me using his or her Facebook account. On their readabout.me profile, every story the University sends via Hometown Newsmaker about the student is on display. In addition to the articles, students can earn and create achievement “badges” as their collections of accomplishments grow.

ReadMedia encourages students to think of their readabout.me profile as an online resume. By the time a student graduates, he or she will have a profile that highlights verified academic achievements and a positive online presence — two attributes today’s employers value greatly.

Blue Hens starting their college career in the fall of 2012 are the first group of students who will have complete profiles — from their first semester at UD to graduation day — and every story and accomplishment in between.

Students should have received an email from readMedia alerting them that their first Hometown Newsmaker stories were sent out earlier this week.

Students are encouraged to set up their free profile at http://readabout.me/

Students or parents who want a specific UD accomplishment to be sent to their hometown should email ud-ocm@udel.edu with the subject line Hometown Newsmaker along with details and a link to the story of the achievement.

Students who do not want their accomplishments shared or posted through readMedia can change their privacy settings through UDSIS.
