Events Stories

June 5: Blue Hen 5K

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

Plouffe, a native of Delaware, started his political career working for the 1990 re-election campaign of Iowa U.S. Sen. Tom Harkins and in 2008 served as campaign manager for Obama. He served as an outside senior adviser to the administration and in 2011 was appointed as senior adviser working inside the White House.

Schmidt served as a top strategist for George W. Bush’s 2004 re-election and managed the successful California gubernatorial campaign of Arnold Schwarzenegger in 2006 before guiding the McCain campaign. He is vice chairman for public affairs of Edelman, one of the world’s largest public relations firms.

Both were cited in a 2008 Bloomberg News article that called UD the “epicenter” of national politics, both for their involvement and for the candidacy of fellow Blue Hen Joseph R. Biden, Jr., who recently teamed with Obama to win a second term as vice president.

The theme of this fall’s National Agenda has been “Road to the Presidency.”

The Nov. 14 presentation will be moderated by Ralph Begleiter, director of UD’s Center for Political Communication.
