University offers Project Management Professional exam prep class

10:29 a.m., Jan. 4, 2013--Demand for project management training has been increasing steadily at the University of Delaware, with multiple sections graduating each semester from the Division of Professional and Continuing Studies’ project management certificate program, including new sections offered in Dover.

By popular request, UD will now offer an intensive two-day Project Management Professional exam preparation workshop, taking place on two upcoming Saturdays, Jan. 26 and Feb. 2, from 8 a.m.-5 p.m., at the UD Downtown Center, 8th and King streets, Wilmington.

Offered in cooperation with the Delaware Valley Chapter of the Project Management Institute (PMI), the workshop concentrates on preparation for PMI’s Project Management Professional (PMP) examination and will focus on key topics documented in the PMI Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK). The workshop also covers sample exam questions and best practices to prepare for the exam.

The Project Management Institute, which administers project manager credentialing, says that approximately 1.2 million new project management jobs will be created each year for the next 10 years. “Part of the growth is fueled by the generation of baby boomers reaching retirement, as well as by companies vigorously emphasizing efficiency in the post-recession economy,” explains a recent U.S. News & World Report article.

National surveys conducted by the Project Management Institute reveal that PMP credential holders in the U.S. earned an average of 16 percent more (or approximately $14,500) than their non-credentialed peers in 2011.

The cost of the exam preparation workshop is $995. Through Jan. 11, a 10 percent discount is available for early registration. UD alumni, including graduates of UD certificate programs, are eligible for a 15 percent discount. Members of PMI Delaware Valley Chapter receive a 10 percent discount.
