Faculty promotions

Trustees approve promotions for 43 faculty members


4:11 p.m., May 9, 2012--The University of Delaware Board of Trustees approved promotions of 43 faculty members at its spring meeting May 8. All are effective Sept. 1.

Twelve faculty members were promoted to full professor with tenure, 28 to associate professor with tenure, one to assistant professor without tenure and two associate professors were given tenure.

Promoted to professor were Fidelma Boyd, biological sciences; Suzanne Burton, music; Robert Denemark, political science and international relations; Eric Furst, chemical and biomolecular engineering; James Glancey, bioresources engineering; James Cole Galloway, physical therapy; Adele Hayes and Jean-Philippe Laurenceau, both psychology; Paul Imhoff, civil and environmental engineering; Delphis Levia, geography; Ivan Sun, sociology and criminal justice; and Sharon Walpole, School of Education. 

Named associate professor with tenure were Harsh Bais, Jules Bruck and Nicole Donofrio, all plant and soil sciences; Tonya Bartell, School of Education; Vicki Cassman, art conservation; Deborah Bieler, English; Rebecca Davis, history; Abigal Donovan and Troy Richards, both art; Thomas Epps, III, chemical and biomolecular engineering; Jeffrey Heinz, linguistics and cognitive science; Gregory Hicks, physical therapy; Jamie Holder and Yi Ji, both physics and astronomy; Rachael Hutchinson, foreign languages and literatures; Xiaoming Li, electrical engineering; Jennifer McConnell and Christopher Meehan, both civil and environmental engineering; Bernard McKenna, English; Iva Obrusnikova, behavioral health and nutrition; Sandeep Patel, chemistry and biochemistry; Vimalin Rujivacharakul, art history; Greg Shriver, entomology and wildlife ecology; Stephen Siegel, and Michela Taufer, both computer and information sciences; Patricia Sloane-White, anthropology; Herbert Tanner, mechanical engineering; and Jiannan Wang, accounting and management information systems. 

Kelly Cobb was promoted to assistant professor of fashion and apparel studies, without tenure.

Awarded tenure were Hagit Shatkay, associate professor of computer and information sciences; and Tom Vermeer, associate professor of accounting and management information systems.
