Widener's Linda Ammons to deliver annual Louis L. Redding Lecture

11:04 a.m., Feb. 21, 2012--Linda Ammons, associate provost and dean of the Widener University School of Law, will deliver the annual Louis L. Redding Lecture at 4 p.m., Monday, Feb. 27, in the Gore Recital Hall of the Roselle Center for the Arts on the University of Delaware campus in Newark.

The lecture is free and open to the public.

University of Delaware graduates planning to attend Alumni Weekend are encouraged to register for the annual Blue Hen 5K walk and run, which will be held Sunday morning, June 5.

June 6-9: Food and culture series

The 20th annual June Lecture Series at the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at UD in Wilmington will be held June 6-9. Titled 'June a la Carte,' this year's program focuses on great political documents, feminism, world politics and a Newark cuisine sampler.

Ammons will speak on the topic "As the World Turns: Not the Soap Opera."

Ammons is the first woman and the first African American to lead the Widener University School of Law and one of only seven African American women in the nation serving as dean of a law school.

She holds a bachelor of arts degree from Oakwood College, a master's from Ohio State University and a juris doctor from Ohio State's Moritz College of Law.

The lecture is sponsored by UD's Office of Equity and Inclusion, the President’s Diversity Initiative, the Center for Black Culture, the Center for the Study of Diversity, the Department of Black American Studies, the Department of Women Studies, the Legal Studies Program and the Office of General Counsel.

The Redding Lecture is part of the Black History Month: February and Beyond activities. For details, see the Center for Black Culture web page.

The lecture is held each year to recognize the civil rights efforts of Louis L. Redding, the first African American attorney admitted to the Delaware Bar in 1929.
