Vice President Hayward announces retirement plans
1:09 p.m., Feb. 8, 2012--Pierre D. Hayward, vice president and University secretary at the University of Delaware, has announced his plans to retire, effective June 1.
" I have thoroughly enjoyed my 18 years serving as University secretary, which has afforded me the opportunity to work with a group of extremely capable working colleagues whose support, friendship and sense of humor are as memorable as the many successes the University has achieved," Hayward said.

UD President Patrick Harker said, "I thank Pete and his family for dedicated service to this University. He has been a valuable resource to the Board of Trustees, the senior administration and our faculty, staff, student body and alumni. He will be missed, and we have a significant role to fill.
"We are currently reviewing the responsibilities of the University secretary's office to determine the appropriate next steps," Harker said.
Before joining UD in 1993, Hayward served as senior vice president and corporate affairs division manager at Delaware Trust Co. in Wilmington and previously as executive assistant to U.S. Sen. William V. Roth.
A U.S. Air Force veteran, he is a 1970 graduate of Trinity College.
The Office of the Vice President and University Secretary provides support to the Board of Trustees, oversees UD Commencement exercises and manages the University archives.
