9:40 a.m., Feb. 16, 2011----The John L. Weinberg Center for Corporate Governance (WCCG) at the University of Delaware was recently awarded a grant from the Investor Responsibility Research Center (IRRC) Institute and has announced the establishment of the Edgar Woolard Fellowship program to promote research and study in the field of corporate governance.

Craig Ferrere, an undergraduate finance major and economics minor in the Alfred Lerner College of Business and Economics, was selected as the inaugural Woolard Fellow. In this role, Ferrere will study executive compensation models and work toward developing a new methodology for assessing CEO pay and performance.

“It is an honor to be named the first Woolard Fellow at the University of Delaware,” said Ferrere. “I am looking forward to my research, and to have the opportunity to make a contribution in the important field of executive compensation.”

Charles Elson, Edgar S. Woolard, Jr., Chair and director of the WCCG, worked with the IRRC in establishing the grant and the fellowship program.

“We are pleased to establish this fellowship in the name of Edgar Woolard, whose name has been synonymous with integrity and good governance,” said Elson. “I would also like to thank IRRC Institute Executive Director Jon Lukomnik for his help in funding this program.”

Established in 2000 in the Lerner College of Business and Economics, the Weinberg Center is devoted to the thoughtful study and reform of corporate governance through education, scholarship and programs benefitting the legal, financial and business communities.
