2:06 p.m., June 4, 2010----Spend a week in June learning from some of the region's most fascinating people, speaking on topics that will entertain and enlighten, through a special program offered by the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at University of Delaware in Wilmington.

The week-long morning lecture series takes place Monday, June 14, through Friday, June 18, at Arsht Hall on the University's Wilmington Campus, 2700 Pennsylvania Ave. Topics and speakers will be:

"More Than America's Treasure House: H. F. du Pont's Museum & Country Estate" -- J. Thomas Savage, director of museum affairs, Winterthur Museum & Country Estate.

"Lost Gardens of the Brandywine" -- Maggie Lidz, estate historian, Winterthur Museum & Country Estate.

"The Winterthur Garden" -- John Feliciani, director of horticulture, Winterthur Museum & Country Estate.

"Art Meets Science: Discovering Images and Vanishing Masterpieces in Painting" -- Jennifer L. Mass, senior scientist, Winterthur Museum & Country Estate.

"What's Happening with the Delaware Environmental Institute?" -- Donald Sparks, S. Hallock du Pont Professor of Plant and Soil Sciences at the University of Delaware and director of the Delaware Environmental Institute, and Anthony Aufdenkampe, Stroud Water Research Center.

"Where Science Meets Art: The Preservation of the World's Photographic Heritage," and "Family Photographs Eight Days a Week" -- Debra Hess Norris, Henry Francis du Pont Chair in Fine Arts, chairperson of the Department of Art Conservation and vice provost for graduate and professional education at the University of Delaware.

"Mary Shelley's Frankenstein" -- Charles Robinson, professor of English, University of Delaware.

"The Life and Art of N. C. Wyeth" -- Jane Flitner, associate educator, Brandywine River Museum.

"Were There Dinosaurs in Delaware and Are Dinosaurs with Us Today?" -- Halsey Spruance, executive director, and Don Miller, docent, Delaware Museum of Natural History.

"The Evolution of Nursing: Through the Years" -- Diane Talarek, senior vice president, Christiana Care Health System.

"The Violin: A Brief Anatomy and Biography" -- R. Teal Wintsch, luthier, David Bromberg Fine Violins, LLC.

"Cab Calloway School of the Arts JazzChords" -- Marty Lassman, conductor.

Each day will feature two lectures, the first one beginning at 9:15 a.m., and the second at 11 a.m. Doors will open at 8:45 a.m. each morning. The registration fee for the full series is $50 per person; light refreshments are included.

The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute at University of Delaware in Wilmington, formerly known as the Academy of Lifelong Learning, is a membership organization that provides opportunities for adults 50 and over to learn, teach, and travel with their peers. The only requirements for admission are interest in a continuing educational experience, support of the programs through participation, and a modest membership fee. Courses meet weekdays at Arsht Hall.
