9:32 a.m., Jan. 22, 2009----Miss Delaware Galen Giaccone, a student at the University of Delaware, won the preliminary talent award during the first night of competition at the 2009 Miss America Pageant being held at the Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.
Giaccone, 20, a junior in the College of Arts and Sciences who hopes to become a dental surgeon, won a $2,000 scholarship for her piano performance of “El Cubanchero.”
She was crowned Miss Delaware in June.
The Miss America finals will air beginning at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 24, on TLC.
