             University of Delaware

Table of contents

Introduction

The University of Delaware has purchased a site license for a fixed number of copies of SPSS for microcomputers. These copies may be installed on University-owned systems as well as systems owned by faculty and staff members. The licensed components consist of the SPSS/Base, Advanced Statistics, and Professional Statistics modules. For SPSS 7.5, the Professional Statistics module includes logistic regression, unconstrained and constrained nonlinear regression, weighted and two-stage least squares, multidimensional scaling, probit models, and reliability analysis. For SPSS 7.5, the Advanced Statistics modules include GLM (general linear models), loglinear models, hierarchical loglinear models, GENLOG (loglinear and logistic models via generalized linear models), variance component estimation, survival analysis, and macro language extensions.

This document describes the procedures for obtaining a copy, the conditions of use, and the installation procedure.

The installation requires that you use special license codes which expire annually. Initial and annual renewal license codes will be sent to registered faculty and staff who use the on-line registration forms below.

How much will the software cost me?

The software license costs for SPSS/Base, Advanced Statistics, and Professional Statistics are borne by Information Technologies for installation on University-owned and faculty/staff-owned systems.  (Students wanting a copy for their own microcomputers should purchase the SPSS Graduate Pack at the University Bookstore.  The Graduate Pack consists of SPSS/Base, Advanced Statistics, and Professional Statistics, and costs approximately $160.)

What documentation is available?

The SPSS software comes with extensive on-line help, including a short tutorial. To start the tutorial, run SPSS and select Help / Tutorial. If you want to purchase printed documentation, you can view short descriptions of each manual and order manuals directly from the SPSS Bookstore.

What if I want additional components?

You may purchase any additional SPSS components that you need, such as Table or Trends, directly from SPSS Inc.  After you have installed the three initial components (SPSS/Base, Advanced Statistics, and Professional Statistics), run the setup program that comes with your additional components to install them.

Who may obtain the software for installation?

Violation of the contract with SPSS Inc. may subject you to civil  proceedings and severe penalties.

What versions are available and what are their minimum system requirements?

Where may the software be installed?

The software may be installed on any University of Delaware-owned system controlled by the person who has signed the contract agreement.  It may be installed on a portable computer for use by University of Delaware faculty or staff members.  It may also be installed on a University of Delaware faculty or staff member's personal system on-campus or off-campus.  It may not be installed elsewhere.
