The year 2001 marks Winterthur's 50th anniversary as a public institution. In conjunction with the museum's yearlong festivities, the Society of Winterthur Fellows hosted a three-day event, September 21-23, 2001, celebrating the contributions of the fellows of both programs. An important part of this celebration was a 1½-day Conference presented by graduates of the Winterthur Program in Early American Culture and the Winterthur/University of Delaware Program in Art Conservation. As a means of assessing the present and looking toward the future, the conference documented current and emerging trends in the many fields to which Winterthur Fellows have made significant contributions, including museology, art conservation, historic preservation, American studies, curatorial activities, art history, and education to name just a few.

Other activities that occurred during this three-day event included tours of the museum and Research Building to help graduates become reacquainted with Winterthur, an opening reception in the Gallery, a dinner, and many opportunities to schedule class activities.
