Christine Leback Sitwell graduated in 1997 from the Winterthur program in conservation. Subsequently, she was awarded a postgraduate fellowship to study in the paintings conservation department of the Tate Gallery, London. Her interest in modern artists and their materials and techniques resulted in numerous publications including, "The Dilemma of the Painter and Conservator in the Synthetic Age: the Papers and Correspondence of the Artist, Gluck". After leaving the Tate, she worked as a private paintings and exhibition conservator, which led to the development of reusable packing cases and the study of shock and vibration on works of art in transit. In 1990 she joined the National Trust as Assistant Adviser on Paintings Conservation and subsequently became Adviser on Paintings Conservation and Painted Surfaces. |
