Membership Information

Membership in Sigma Xi recognizes individuals who have shown potential as researchers. Membership may be at either associate or full members depending on the level of scientific research accomplishment, with full membership conferred upon those who have demonstrated noteworthy achievements in research.

Qualifications for Membership:

Full Member: Any individual who has shown noteworthy achievement as an original investigator in a field of pure or applied science is eligible for election or promotion to full membership in the Society. Noteworthy achievement in research must be evidenced by publication, patents, written reports or a thesis or dissertation.

Associate Member: Any individual who has, through initial research achievement in a field of pure or applied science, shown aptitude for research which is expected in due course to lead to the fulfillment of the requirements for full membership, is eligible for election to associate membership. Research aptitude specified for election to associate membership must be evidenced by independent investigation ordinarily resulting in a written report.

2007 Membership Drive - Deadline: April 28, 2007

The University of Delaware Chapter accepts nominations of undergraduate and graduate researchers from advisers, as well as nominations of faculty and staff researchers from colleagues. For student nominations, the student is asked to complete the green shaded portion and the research adviser should complete the blue shaded portion in the customized application form below. Please send nominations electronically to Melinda Duncan at <duncanm@udel.edu> (by surface mail to 327 Wolf Hall, Dept. of Biological Sciences, University of Delaware) for completion of the nomination process by the local Membership committee. Completed nomination forms will be processed when a check for the first year's dues and initiation fee is received by surface mail. Please make check payable to "University of Delaware Chapter of Sigma Xi".

Note: Nominations may be submitted at any time. The stated deadline is for the membership committee to arrange a first and second nominator for 'nominations' from non-members.

Dues Rates for July 1, 2007-June 30, 2008
$40.00   Student: $25.00 annual dues + $15.00 initiation fee
$86.00   Regular (Full or Associate): $71.00 annual dues + $15.00 initiation fee
