GENERAL LOCATION

Centrally located between New York City and Washington, D.C., the University of Delaware campus and Newark (pronounced New Ark, as it was once spelled), are only minutes away from Interstate 95 and easily accessible by air, train, and car. Philadelphia International Airport is approximately 40 miles from campus. New York City and Washington, D.C., are about 2 hours away by train and slightly longer by car

By Car
From the north: Take I-95 South to Delaware Exit 1-B; Route 896 North. Continue straight approximately one mile on Route 896 North. The Bob Carpenter Sports Convocation Center (the Bob) and Football Stadium will be on your right. Turn in here and park.

From the south: Take I-95 North to Delaware Exit 1; Route 896 North. Continue straight approximately one mile on Route 896 North. The Bob Carpenter Sports Convocation Center will be on your right. Turn in here and park.

From the west: Take the Pennsylvania Turnpike East to Route 283 South. Continue on Route 283 South, which becomes Route 30 East outside of Lancaster, to Route 896 South. As you reach campus and cross the railroad tracks, immediately turn left onto Delaware Avenue and right (at the second traffic light) onto South College Avenue. Continue straight on South College Avenue approximately two miles. The Bob Carpenter Sports Convocation Center (the Bob) and Football Stadium will be on your leftt. Turn in here and park.

By Air
Fly to Philadelphia International Airport, just 50 minutes to the north of campus, or Baltimore Washington International Aiport (BWI), about one hour to the south of campus. If you are driving to campus from the airport, follow our directions by car. Otherwise, ground transportation to and from campus is provided by Delaware Express and SuperShuttle.

Airport SEPTA Service: To take the SEPTA train from the Philadelphia airport to Newark, follow the signs for baggage claim. Before you get to the baggage claim area, you will see signs for the train. These will lead you to an escalator going down to the track level. Purchase a ticket in one of the vending machines for zone 5 (tickets may also be purchased on the train, with a possible surcharge). The adult one-way fare should be $6. Take the SEPTA R1 train from the airport (it stops at every terminal) to University City, walk to the other side of the platform, and take the R2 outbound to Newark. The R1 runs every half hour. The R2 only serves Newark on the weekdays at certain times. The following is a current list of connections:

At all other times and on Saturdays, you must get off in Wilmington and take a local bus (such as DART #6). There is no bus service on Sundays. Times marked with an * have longer stop-overs. If the R1 is on time and it's cold outside, you can change one stop further at 30th Street Station, which is indoors.

By Train and By Bus
AMTRAK trains run between Florida to New England and stop in Wilmington.  Greyhound buses from Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington, D.C., and New York City travel to Wilmington. The Greyhound bus will drop you off in front of the Wilmington train station. From the Wilmington train station, it is a 20-minute express bus ride to campus via the #6 DART bus; non-express buses may take slightly longer. Express buses run every half-hour at a cost of $1.90 each way. Limited taxi service to Newark from the Wilmington train station is also available. Additionally, limited AMTRAK and regional rail service (SEPTA) is available to the Newark train station.
