Richard Heck, 2010 Nobel Laureate in Chemistry, invented the Heck Reac- tion, which uses the metal palladium as a catalyst to bring carbon atoms to- gether. The Heck Reaction is used to produce many of the world’s pharma- ceuticals and is spurring the development of new, energy-saving electronics.
