Combining Sections
Definition: Combined sections are two sections of the same course that meet together (i.e. ENGL323-010/080; ENGL323-011/081).
Notes
**Once courses have been connected in UDSIS, changes to meeting patterns, instructors, etc. can only be made on the 'Schedule Class Meetings' page**
Instructions
- Decided within a department:
- Enter the information for each section into UDSIS.
- Complete the Combine Sections Form and send it to Schedoffice@udel.edu so that the Scheduling Office can combine (connect) the courses/sections in UDSIS on the term's "Internal Table". This connection tells UDSIS to treat the courses as one, with an assigned room capacity and total enrollment/closed. Notes will be added to appropriate sections.
- If enrollment caps need to be increased or decreased on one or both sections AFTER the UDSIS connection has been established:
- Make the change on the individual sections.
- Notify the Scheduling office. The change has to be made on the "Internal Table".
- Combined courses roll from term to term. If an established "combination" is not going to be offered in a specific term, notify the Scheduling office so that they can separate the sections on the "Internal Table".
- Never delete combined sections. If your department decides not to offer a section that has been combined, mark the section either as 'tentative' or 'stop further enrollment' and notify the Scheduling office.
Dual Listing Courses
Definition: Dual Listed courses are courses of different levels within the same department that are offered together (i.e. ELEG469-010/679-010).
Notes
**Once courses have been connected in UDSIS, changes to meeting patterns, instructors, etc. can only be made on the 'Schedule Class Meetings' page**
- A 400-level may be dual-listed with a 600-level course. (Some departments have run out of 600 catalog numbers so they are approved to offer a 400 and a 700 level dual-listed course).
- An approved 400- or 600-level course may be dual-listed with an experimental course (X67).
Instructions
- Decided within a department:
- Enter the information for each course into UDSIS.
- Complete the Dual-List Courses Form and send it to Schedoffice@udel.edu so that the Scheduling Office can combine (connect) the courses/sections in UDSIS on the term's "Internal Table". This connection tells UDSIS to treat the courses as one, with an assigned room capacity and total enrollment/closed.
- Add the appropriate numbered notes to each course:
- #034: 400 level meets w/600 level
- #035: 600 level meets w/400 level
- #329: 400 level meets w/700 level
- #330: 700 level meets w/400 level
- If enrollment caps need to be increased or decreased on one or both courses AFTER the UDSIS connection has been established:
- Make the change on the individual course(s).
- Notify the Scheduling office. The change has to be made on the "Internal Table".
- Dual-listed courses roll from term to term. If an established dual listing is not going to be offered in a specific term,
- Notify the Scheduling office so that they can separate the sections on the "Internal Table".
- Delete the corresponding numbered notes.
- Never delete dual-listed courses. If your department decides not to offer a course that has been dual-listed, mark the course either as 'tentative' or 'stop further enrollment' and notify the Scheduling office.
Cross-Listing Courses
Definition: Cross-listed courses are same level courses from different departments that meet together (i.e. WOMS204-010/COMM204-010).
Notes
**Once courses have been connected in UDSIS, changes to meeting patterns, instructors, etc. can only be made on the 'Schedule Class Meetings' page**
- All cross-listing information rolls from the UDSIS course catalog to the SOC.
- If, at any time, cross-listed course information needs to be changed, use the Course Inventory application to make the change.
- Cross-listings for permanent courses are set up at the catalog level, and are typically created at the time courses are established. A primary department may request an additional cross-listing added to a course using the Course Inventory application.
- Experimental (x67) courses do not need to go through the course approval process for cross-listing, as they are not set up at the catalog level.
Experimental courses may be cross-listed at any time.
- An experimental course cannot be cross-listed with a permanent course.
- Two experimental courses can be cross-listed.
- Occasionally the catalog number may not match. This happens when a catalog number for one of the rubrics is not available.
- A secondary course cannot be offered unless the corresponding primary course (owner) is being offered. NO EXCEPTIONS.
Instructions
- Typical Scenario: a secondary department wants to offer their course in a term
- It is the responsibility of the secondary department to get the approval of the primary department (owner)
- Contact the primary department's Scheduling Contact and get verbal approval -- 'yes' they are going to run the primary course and 'yes' you can cross-list for the specified term.
- Get specifics of the course -- meeting pattern, instructor, etc.
- Set up course/s in UDSIS.
NOTE: A secondary department may need "access" to set up their course because it is technically 'owned' by the primary department. If this happens to you, contact the Scheduling office and request access to the owning department.
- It is the responsibility of the secondary department to get the approval of the primary department (owner)
- The secondary department must then complete a Cross-List Courses Form and send it to the primary department.
- The primary department will add information to the form, approve the cross-listing and send the completed cross-listing form to the Scheduling office so that a "connection" can be made in UDSIS on the term's "Internal Table" (same table as for dual-listed courses & combined sections), and notes are added.
- Cross-listing requests without appropriate paperwork/approvals will not be cross-listed by the Scheduling office.
- If courses cross-listed in a previous term are not going to be cross-listed in a current term:
- Delete any/all entries on the "basic data tab" under "course attributes".
- Delete any corresponding notes.
- Notify the Scheduling office so that the courses can be "disconnected" on the term's "Internal table".
- Never delete cross-listed courses. If your department decides not to offer a course that has been dual-listed, mark the course either as "tentative" or "stop further enrollment" and notify the Scheduling office.
- If enrollment needs to be changed after the cross-listing has been made in UDSIS:
- Change the enrollment on each course.
- Notify the Scheduling office so that the change can be made on the "Internal Table".
