Class Size
Class size is set by the Chair of the Department in consultation with the faculty of the department. Every effort must be made to insure an appropriate class size is maintained for all courses offered by a department. Absolute minimum size for undergraduate courses is ten students; for graduate courses (500-level and above) six students. According to University Faculty Senate policy (February 1975), "in those few cases where the number of either undergraduate students or graduate students does not permit adequate offerings, a graduate 600-numbered course may be combined with a separately numbered 400-level undergraduate course in the same section. The graduate component must then be offered with a graduate standard of expectation and grading" (emphasis added).
