Dear UD Community,

Today, our hearts are with Michigan State University, which is grappling with a mass shooting that has shaken their entire campus. As a community of students, faculty and staff members who share a common mission to build a better world, we at the University of Delaware send our thoughts and condolences to the MSU Spartans at this tragic time.

Sadly, such situations threatening public safety continue to emerge in multiple ways on a daily basis across the globe. The occurrence of this particular tragedy on a college campus reminds us about our shared responsibility to keep our campus as safe as possible. UD Police are dedicated to ensuring the safety of everyone in our community, and we continue to invest in developing and strengthening our public safety resources and response efforts. I encourage you to become familiar with several specific resources:

News and imagery related to mass violence or loss of life can be disturbing for all of us. We need to take care of ourselves and each other. For students, the Center for Counseling and Student Development offers resources to anyone seeking support; they can be reached at (302) 831-2141. For faculty and staff, the Employee Assistance Program (EAP) can help with a variety of issues through ComPsych® GuidanceResources®

At UD, we remain committed to building a strong and safe community so that everyone can learn, work and thrive in a healthy environment.

Sincerely,
