Dear UD Community,

With recent federal actions affecting student visas across the country, we know many in our University of Delaware community, particularly our international students, are feeling anxious and uncertain. We want to share what we know, how we have been responding, and inform all of those who are affected about UD support resources that are available.

Like many institutions around the country, UD has students in the community who have been impacted by visa revocations. The University is aware that DHS has terminated Student and Exchange Visitor Information System (SEVIS) records and/or visas of eight UD-sponsored visa holders — three current students and five former students on post-graduation Optional Practical Training work authorization. The University had no advance notice of or involvement with these decisions by the federal government.

At this time, we are not aware of any UD community members being arrested or detained, nor do we have any awareness of a federal law enforcement presence on our campus related to these matters. In any such instances, the University has a response protocol; affected individuals should contact UD Police at 302-831-2222. The University’s Office of General Counsel will be notified as necessary.

If the University’s Center for Global Programs and Services (CGPS) is notified or becomes aware through its daily monitoring that a member of our community’s visa status has been affected by a federal action, CGPS will reach out to the community member and provide information and resources for accessing and identifying personal immigration legal services and campus support.

We want to assure you that the University is committed to supporting its students, faculty and staff and will continue to monitor, notify those impacted, and share information and resources as appropriate. Please know we are adapting to this evolving situation and it is important to remember throughout this process that we must respect the privacy of anyone who is directly impacted.

We encourage all members of our UD community to visit UD’s Federal Actions Update Page and the CGPS page for announcements, FAQs, and updates to available resources and support:

Sincerely,
