University of Delaware

April 28, 2026

Dear Staff,

As part of our ongoing commitment to staff well-being at the University of Delaware, we are surveying all staff this spring and annually thereafter about the degree to which you are thriving in your work here. Your responses will be compared to national norms in a report to our institution.

We are working with The Thriving Project, a group of researchers in southern California that has been studying staff thriving since 2017. The Pulse Survey is adapted from the Thriving Project’s Staff Thriving Quotient, a reliable (α = .94) and valid instrument that has been administered to thousands of staff in over 100 institutions. The Thriving Project will handle all the data collection and analysis. Your responses will be confidential. UD will only receive de-identified data and a report that compares UD to the national norms.

The results of this survey will serve as a baseline for comparisons annually. Dr. Laurie Schreiner, creator of the Thriving Quotient, will also come to campus in the fall to present on the results to the community and to the Board of Trustees. We would like to hear from all of you and hope you will take the time to respond.

In a few days, you will receive an email containing the Staff Pulse Survey that will take about 15-20 minutes to complete. We want to recognize your time and input and will conduct a random drawing for $50 Amazon gift cards if you choose to provide your email address at the end of the survey. All emails will be separated into a file that is only used for the prize drawings and is then deleted. No email addresses will remain as part of the database.

If you have any questions about the survey, please reach out to me at president@udel.edu.

Yours in UD,

Laura Carlson
