Dear UD Community,

I am pleased to share that today, the University of Delaware Board of Trustees unanimously voted to appoint Dr. Laura A. Carlson as our 29th president.

This appointment follows a comprehensive four-month assessment process. Through listening sessions and a campuswide survey, you told us what qualities mattered most in our next leader, what challenges you saw ahead, and what you hope for UD’s future. Campus participation was extraordinary, and that input was essential to the Board’s decision.

Dr. Carlson has shown the qualities we all identified. In her time as Interim President, Provost, and throughout more than three decades in higher education, she has listened, collaborated and led with a clear commitment to our mission and values. The Board is confident she is the right leader for UD.

In the weeks ahead, President-elect Carlson will continue conversations around campus about our shared priorities and strategic direction. I encourage you to remain engaged as we move forward together.

Thank you to everyone who participated in this process: members of the Presidential Appointment Advisory Committee for their time and diligence, and the many staff, faculty, students, and alumni who took the time to share their perspective. Your thoughtful engagement made this process stronger and will shape UD’s future.
