Dear UD Community,

The deadly shooting of Christopher D. Fitzgerald, a Temple University police officer, in Philadelphia over the weekend is yet another sad reminder of the violence that has enveloped campuses all over the country.

Each of these incidents hits especially close to home for different segments of our own campus community. We know that this latest tragedy is especially painful for the men and women of the University of Delaware Police Department, who feel that they have lost one of their own.

At such a tragic time, we reflect on the vital yet challenging job performed by UDPD. We are deeply grateful for all that they do.

Please join my wife, Eleni, and me as we offer our condolences to the Temple University community and underscore our appreciation for all those who work to keep our community safe.
