Assignment No. 3

DOES YOUR REPRESENTATIVE REPRESENT YOU?

Due April 30, 2002

Worth Five (5) Points

Work alone!

NAME: ____________________________

Student number:_____________________

E-mail address_____________________

As we have discussed numerous times a republican form of democracy rests heavily on representation. It will be interesting then to see if your representative in Congress shares your views on some important issues. To find out you first need to determine what in fact are your views on these controversies; then to locate the person in the House who represents your district and determine how he or she voted on these matters. The goals of this assignment is to encourage everyone to take an interest in politics by looking at what members of congress are doing and to become familiar with a few controversial issues.

You need to proceed as follows.

First, print this form so that you can record the information and turn it in for credit.

Take the public opinion poll in part II. (If you don't have an opinion or don't want to state it, just make one up. Since there are no right or wrong answers and since we'll try to keep your responses confidential, your real beliefs aren't important for this assignment.)

As indicated in Part III use the Internet to go to the sources of information that contain data on congressional voting.

Summarize the requested information in the spaces provide below and hand in the project by the assignment by April 30, 2002 at the latest.

The Assignment counts 5 percent or 5 points.
