CLASE 1: EL CINE I

[They will have to retrieve the following document from the web: The vocabulary and the questions on the text will be offered in Serf: they should be as interactive as possible: this is an assignment that has been previously announced in the syllabus, so that it can be ready for today's class] http://groucho.dsic.upv.es/n2/reportajes/violencia.html La violencia en el cine y la televisión: texto y preparacion del debate.

[The students will have to submitt a word file with the written version of their opening oral presentation for the following class debate. The instructor will check the written presentation and give a partial grade to this first version, then re-submitt it to the student, who will have to revise the grammar and vocabulary mistakes pointed out by the instructor . By doing so, the final grade for the student on the presentation will be made up of the partial grade from the first version, where only grammar and vocabulary (i.e. a written text) will be graded. The rest of the grade will depend on his revision of the mistakes pointed out by the instructor and the oral delivery of the presentation before the debate. The participation and communication abilities during the in-class debate will receive a different grade.

You will have to develop a system of symbols for the correction process.]

Tarea: Buscar y leer el texto de introducción a Tesis en la siguiente página de internet:

[They do the same, following the same procedure, as we have done with the former text. The students read the text, they get the vocabulary list and the questions from Serf]

CLASS 2: EL CINE II

Presentaciones y debate sobre la violencia en el cine y la television. Actividad comunicativa: ¿qué película podemos ver este fin de semana?

Se pueden visitar las siguientes páginas para encontrar una cartelera actual:

[For the actividad comunicativa, the students will be offered sound (video would be nice, too) with two persons discussing what movie they want to see. Then, if you could offer subtitles with the main expressions these people are using, so that the students can get as much information as they can about usual expressions to decide what movie they want to watch. This would involve the following: shooting a video with two people discussing the movies they want to watch--you will have to find two people willing to do that--then digitize the image, edit it and select the expresions the speakers have used. At the end of the video, you could use some on-line animated stuff where the expressions appear for revision. Then the students would have to record a similar conversation with other students and submitt it as a sound file for the instructor to revise.]

Texto introductorio a Tesis.

CLASS 3: EL CINE III [You should offer on-line information about the characters, with selections from the movie, then stop them and explain who they are, what actors play them and so forth.]

Tesis: introduccion de los personajes y la trama.

Comienza el visionado.

CLASS 4: EL CINE IV

Tesis.

CLASS 5: EL CINE V

Tesis

CLASS 6: EL CINE VI

Finaliza el visionado de Tesis.

[Again the students should submitt their opening presentation about the movie in the form of a Word file, so that the instructor may grade the grammar and the vocabulary in the first version. When they deliver the presentation orally, they will get the second part of the grade, this is, their revision of grammar and vocabulary and their oral communication--i.e. communciative abilities, pronunciation, etc.] Preparación de presentaciones y debate sobre la película.

CLASS 7: EL CINE VII

Presentaciones y debate sobre Tesis.

Summary. Things I need to use and software:

* Submitt Text files through Serf

* Grading: Serf

* The students should be able to have access to a video file with the conversation about what movie to watch. To do this, it would be necessary to digitize video images, and then add subtitles on to them: the students should be able to stop the images and "rewind". At the end, you would need an attractive presentation tool to review the expressions they have used (here you could combine the presentation of the written expression with the sound: Powerpoint? It could be something including animation symbols or something of that kind: that would make it attractive.)

* The students should be able to record a sound file with their own conversation and then submitt it to the instructor for grading.

* For the introduction to the characters of the movie, the instructor should be able to offer video passages with brief images of the protagonists, and that should be followed by (maybe on-screen) written information about the actor, the role he/she plays and so forth). It would be cool if the image could be frozen and then written on with the information, or split the screen in two and offer the image in part of the screen and the text in the other]

* PROBLEMS: the size of the sound and video files.
