Article 9 of the Japanese Constitution dates back to May 1947, just after the end of World
War II.  The intent of the article, as I understand it, was to protect the US from any
further attacks by the Japanese military fleet.  Although the intent was proper, in today's
age, I believe the article is outdated.  I question how General McArthur was able to force
such language into the Constitution in the 40's.  More importantly, I question why the
Japanese have not taken steps to repel the amendment.

I support the Self Defenses forces of Japan, whether or not their intent is to mobilize for
war.  A country with such an advanced civilization needs protection of its home front.
Why would the Japanese want to totally expose their land and citizens to an attack?  Why
would they not want some military force in place to protect themselves?

Although I do not agree with the current war in Iraq, I certainly support our troops and
their mission to protect our country.
