a. Rationale for creation, revision, or
deletion:
The
overweight/obesity problem in the
children. Dealing with this issue is a current and
future challenge for nutrition and dietetics professionals who chose
clinical
or community health focus areas of practice.
The management of obesity is complex and encompasses physiologic,
behavioral, and environmental factors.
In order to better prepare our majors who have an interest in this area,
and uniquely position them in the marketplace to deal with this health problem,
we are proposing to develop a concentration in overweight/obesity prevention
and management. The concentration will
provide majors who select to complete it with the knowledge base to enhance
long-term client success in managing healthy weight loss and maintaining a
healthy weight over a lifetime.

HESC 332 Health Behavior (existing HNES department course) 3 Credits
HESC 432 Exercise Prescription (existing HNES department course) 4 Credits
HESC 430 Exercise Physiology (existing HNES department course) 3 Credits
NTDT 330 Nutrition Counseling (existing HNES department course) 3 Credits
NTDT 410 Overweight/Obesity Prevention and Management 3 Credits
A minimum grade of C- is required
for each course. The one new course
proposed is being submitted concurrently for approval with this new
concentration. A designation of concentration
would be noted on the diploma.
