the new or revised curriculum:
(Be aware that approval
of the curriculum is dependent upon these courses successfully passing through
the Course Challenge list. If there are no new courses enter “None”)
None
Other affected units:
(List other departments affected by this new or revised
curriculum. Attach permission from the
affected units. If no other unit is
affected, enter “None”)
None
Rationale:
(Explain your reasons for creating, revising, or deleting the
curriculum or program.)
Require HESC 121 Water Safety
Instruction (WSI) instead of choice between HESC 121 and 122 Lifeguard
training. HESC 121 teaches the
pre-service teachers how to teach swimming.
Swimming is one of the activities covered on the Praxis II tests, a
required test in most states for teacher certification. The Red Cross no longer
requires lifeguard certification as a pre-requisite to WSI.
The
Two other course title changes are as follows: EDUC 414 to Teaching
Exceptional Adolescents and EDUC 419 to Diversity In
Secondary Education.
Replace HESC 214 with HESC 155. The content is largely the same and HESC 155
meets the FYE course requirement criteria.
Program Requirements:
(Show the new or revised curriculum as it should appear in the
Course Catalog. If this is a revision,
be sure to indicate the changes being made to the present curriculum.)
