a. Rationale for creation, revision, or
deletion:
1. Changes in required courses within the major
include: 1) conversion of 4, 3-credit practicum courses to 6, 2-credit
practicum courses, and 2) replacement of BISC106, Elementary Human Physiology,
with BISC207, Introductory Biology I, plus the co-requisite CHEM103, General
Chemistry, plus BISC276, Human Physiology, (for which BISC207 and CHEM103 are
prerequisites.) These changes are being implemented as part of the program’s
ongoing efforts to remain compliant with CAAHEP (Commission on the
Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs) accreditation
standards. The athletic training
education program faculty also feels that these changes will better position the
students for graduate school and the marketplace upon graduation.
2. The Breadth Requirement of a second writing
course outside of the department is being eliminated for the Health and
Physical Education major. It has been difficult for students to gain enrollment
in such a course due to the limited number of courses offered. Students in the
Exercise Science major are required to take HESC 400, Research Methods, which
requires an extensive paper with several rewrites.
3. There is also a revision in the organization
of the Breadth Requirements for the major to eliminate confusion with the Breadth
Requirements in the
