List program changes for
curriculum revisions:
Change EDUC 413 Educational
Psychology: Social Aspects to EDUC 230
Introduction to Exceptional Children, and add EDUC 414 Teaching Exceptional
Adolescents as options to EDUC 205 Human
Development: Grades K-8.
Add EDUC 419 Diversity
in Secondary Education and EDUC 259 Diversity in Community Context as options
to EDUC 258 Cultural Diversity,
Schooling and the Teacher.
Add PSYC 209 Measurement
and Statistics as an option to EDUC 665 Elementary
Statistics.

of the curriculum is dependent upon these courses successfully passing through
the Course Challenge list. If there are no new courses enter “None”)
None
Other affected units:
(List other departments affected by this new or revised
curriculum. Attach permission from the
affected units. If no other unit is
affected, enter “None”)
Psychology. (See attached permission letter) Only psychology majors may take the PSYC 209
course, so this option will not result in any additional students for this
course. This option simply gives credit
for a statistics course already taken by psychology majors who also choose to
complete the EDS minor which also requires a statistics course.
Rationale:
(Explain your reasons for creating, revising, or deleting the
curriculum or program.)
1) EDUC 230 and EDUC 414 both better fit
the needs of students than EDUC 413 as they do not contain a clinical placement
with a subject teacher in a secondary school, as these placements are reserved
for students becoming secondary teachers.
It also provides options for students who have an interest in children
with disabilities.
2) EDUC 419 better fits the needs of
students who wish to study adolescents, providing an option for EDUC 258 which
concerns diversity issues in the elementary grades, and EDUC 259 offers an
enriched cultural diversity context with a field placement in a community
organization.
3) PSYC 209 provides credit for
Psychology students who take the statistics course in their own major, thereby
freeing them from taking a similar statistics course, EDUC 665.
Program Requirements:
(Show the new or revised curriculum as it should appear in the
Course Catalog. If this is a revision,
be sure to indicate the changes being made to the present curriculum.) CHANGES ARE IN BOLD
