a. Rationale
for creation, revision, or deletion:
Reasons for deletion of two courses in the
Elementary Education Program, totaling 4 credits:
EDUC 186: (1 credit) Most of the first-year students who take this course already know
the basics of operating computers so do not
need this course any longer.
Some material from this course, including spreadsheets and powerpoint,
will be added at a more advanced level
to EDUC 286.
DISCIPLINE AREA: (3 CREDITS) We are cutting the number of these liferal
arts courses from 6 to 5 classes because it has become very difficult to find 6
courses in several of the disciplines that our students can take, especially in
competition with students who major in these disciplines. Also, with the addition of a Science
Semester for a large number of our students, they will have just four semesters
in which to take these courses, making
scheduling extremely difficult. Our
students will still have a total of 8 courses in most discipline areas (3
general studies courses plus 5 discipline area courses), so they will maintain
a rigorous academic training.
b. Summary
of program:
The delection of 4 credits leaves the BS in
Elementary Education with 121 total credits.
