Subject: Reduction in Total Minimum Credit Hours for
CHEM/BIOC BS Degrees
Ken:
Please change the wording for all three of the CHEM/BIOC BS
degrees
(BS/BIOC, BS/CHEM, BS/CHEM/ENCH Concentration) to read as
follows:
"After required courses are completed, sufficient
elective credits must
be taken to meet the minimum total credit requirement of 124
credits for
the degree."
[Our BA/CHEM and BA/XCE degress already require 124
credits.]
While the changes generated a great deal of controversy in
our
Department, the final vote was reasonably definitive:
Yes: 14
No: 9
Abstain: 2
Not voting: 8 (counting the Chair, who would only have voted
to break a
tie)
I trust that the BS/BIOC revisions which we passed and
submitted to your
Committee last semester will now be approved in time to be
implemented
this fall.
