Rationale:
(Explain your reasons for creating,
revising, or deleting the curriculum or program.)
The Art minor was not formally disestablished by
the Faculty Senate. Rather, it was noted in the catalog beginning in 2002-2003
that “Applications are currently not being accepted to the minor in Art”.
The minor was suspended because of
over enrollment and students enrolled in the minor just to take one art course
and then dropped the minor. The
successful completion of Art 130 with a grade of “B” or better to enter the
minor will help to eliminate over enrollment and students that aren’t committed
to completing the minor.
The 12 credits of 200, 300 or 400 course
requirements are will not be specific and students will have to take classes
contingent upon availability. In the past students had trouble completing a
minor because a specific course was not available, this open selection of
courses will alleviate this problem. The
open selectiodn of courses will also support the
department’s new direction of prompting cross disciplinary course work across
all concentrations.
