curriculum revisions:
1. Under admission requirements, add the Advance GRE in Biology is required with a minimum score of 580 for Ph.D. applicants.
2. In the section Doctor of Philosophy Requirements under Qualifying Examination add the following after the second sentence:
“The examination shall include questions to evaluate basic competence in biology, ecology, and statistics as well as advanced knowledge in the designated major and ancillary areas. The examination areas, examiners for each of the areas, and pertinent review materials will be identified by the committee and communicated in writing by the major advisor to the student no later than the end of the second semester.”

Rationale:
1. Previously we state in our admission requirements that the advanced GRE in Biology is required for PhD applicants, but we did not stated a minimum score. We are proposing that we specify a minimum score of 580, which is at approximately the 35th percentile of the tested population.
2. We are designating three basic competency areas in our field for the Ph.D. qualifying examination, which were implied before, but not specified.

We want to ensure that students are responsible for reading the
University Academic Regulations for Graduate Students. We had some cases where students were not
familiar with registration requirements, application for advanced degree, leave
of absence policy, and etc.
