1. Select a topic, concept, theme, issue and break
it into part (e.g. Civil War - short term causes, long
term causes, short term effects, long term effects).
2. Place students in expert groups.
3. Assign each group a piece of the "puzzle"
(i.e. short term causes, long term causes...) and ask
them to develop an expertise in that piece.
4. Send individual "experts" into mixed
groups (i.e. ones with different expertise) and have them
share their expertise.
