Guideline 7

7. How do I get on the World Wide Web to search for information?

There will be no instructional time devoted to teaching you how to surf the Internet. You will have to assume responsibility for this. However, here are a few ideas on how to begin to use Netscape (a program for surfing the Internet): 1). the university offers classes on the Internet; 2). chances are good that at least one member of your team knows how to surf and can show you; 3). Willard Hall room 203I has 16 Powermacs where you can access Netscape without even activating your university account - ask the lab assistant; 4). go to just about any computing site and ask a lab assistant this question: "Can you show me how to use Netscape?" 5). ask the TA in your lab section. Netscape is menu driven and is easy to use - you can do a search of the entire Internet on the word "hurricane." However, avoid searching the Internet for "the answer" - the answer lies in your group's arguments, not upon finding a website entitled "everything you always wanted to know about rank-ordering the likelihood of earthquakes, volcanoes, and hurricanes affecting Delaware, but were afraid to ask."
