Students pursuing the Ph.D. in organic chemistry engage in a rich program involving research, coursework, and continued learning through a rich seminar series and a weekly, student-driven journal club. 

Our graduate students engage in diverse and multidisciplinary research programs, supported by world class facilities in NMR, mass spectroscopy, x-ray diffraction, and microscopy.

Through coursework, all students gain strong background in synthetic methods, physical organic chemistry, total synthesis, spectroscopy, bioorganic chemistry. Typical electives include biochemistry, organometallics or inorganic chemistry.

Our department maintains strong ties to industry in a region of the country that is rich with pharmaceutical and chemical companies.
