Analysis
Social and Academic Disconnect:
The five major areas of activity on campus (Laird, the central core, east housing, the Ag school and the athletics complex) are separated by physical infrastructure (roads, trains, etc) causing a disconnect in social, academic, and pedestrian activity on campus.
Issue
- The roads and train tracks are a major limitation to the cohesiveness and growth of campus
- Limited opportunities for gathering spaces – both formal and serendipitous – for social interaction and exchange of ideas
