Success through Sacrifice: Empowering English Learners through Creative Nonfiction encompasses many Common Core Standards for reading and interacting with literary and informational texts. Apart from those, three twelfth grade Common Core standards for speaking and listening, as well as, one English Language Development Standard complement my motivation – empowering my students - for this unit: CCW.3, CCSL.1.C, CCSL.1.D, and EL.K12.LA.1
