Journaling into the Kindergarten Heart

Synopsis

This unit will introduce the concept of journaling to kindergarten students. They will begin by drawing pictures to convey their thought and feeling and then move onto using words to do the same. So many assignments in writing curriculums are stilted and scripted and lack the ability for students to be truly creative. This unit will let the child’s heart do the writing and by doing this they will also be practicing handwriting, spelling, and basic conventions. This unit will not be formally assessed but instead the teacher will be able to see growth through gradual progress in the journal. Students will produce a journal of memories, thoughts, personal stories, hopes and dreams. It may sound like a huge task to take on but the results will warm your heart.
