The curriculum unit “Click! Snapshots of Our Lives” takes the teacher and students from “What is narrative writing?” to publishing a finished piece. This 2nd and 3rd grade unit uses a gradual release model in which the teacher first models writing a narrative (I do), the teacher and students share the writing (We do), and the students have plenty of opportunities for independent practice (They do). While the unit includes 6 lessons and 2 mini-lessons, the pacing is up to the teacher implementing the unit. It could be taught successively or broken up to fit your writing needs. The lessons feature mentor texts that are exemplars for students to examine, free and accessible videos for supplemental instruction, and suggested prompts to keep students writing the rest of the year. By the end of this unit, students will have the tools that they need to write, revise, and publish an engaging nonfiction narrative paragraph.
