Become A Superhero! Seven Habits for a Successful Student and a Social/Emotional Classroom

In this year-long unit, students will learn the characteristics of being a leader and building a community of learners. They will learn the Seven Habits of Leader in Me and how to hold class meetings to build a collaborative community of learners. They will discover the characteristics of comics and drawing techniques. The student will explore picture books dealing with perseverance, empathy, leadership, habits, being proactive, and other traits that are taught in Leader in Me. Following Common Core standards, the children will be able to read and answer questions, produce models, and engage in collaborative discussions and work groups. The students will participate in classroom activities, daily meetings, and leadership activities to help build their knowledge about these topics. The purpose of the unit will be for students to become leaders in their own learning and change their learning environment into a community of collaboration. The unit’s conclusion, students will work in groups or individually to create a project of comic books. These original products will be displayed for the school as a resource for teaching Leader in Me.
